A few educational websites I found while browsing the internet-

On this site you can type in a word, and it will generate a worksheet where your child can practice tracing the word.  This is a great resource to have your child practice tracing his/her first and last name if they still struggle with capitalization of the beginning letter only and writing the remaining letters in lowercase.

Although this website is targeted for older students who have spelling tests, it would still be a great resource to help your child practice reading and writing the 25 sight words required by the district.

After we finish our unit of study on poetry, we will begin a new unit of study during writer’s workshop on letter writing and postcard writing.

Check out this great link below for some wonderful ways to promote writing at home.

Be sure to check out the Materials and Resources section.  You can download an alphabet chart for writing both uppercase and lowercase letters as well as letter paper templates.

Also visit the little black box on our blog to download the letter sound box card we use in our classroom during writer’s workshop to help with letter sound correspondences.

fundraiser for Haiti February 2, 2010

Filed under: Attention Parents — missthurston @ 5:13 am

Student Council is sponsoring a fundraiser for Haiti during the month of February called

‘DONATE A DOLLAR.’

Jars will be placed in the office, at the parent sign-in desk, and in the library for donations.

ALL proceeds during the month of February from the Student Store will also be donated to this fundraiser.

All money will go to the Red Cross.

If you and your child would like to donate to this cause, I will make sure that they get to go down to the office and make their donation.

P.S. You might want them to do an extra chore around the house to earn the dollar. Or, donate a dollar from their “Tooth Fairy” fund!

Don’t forget… February 1, 2010

The 100th day of school is on Wednesday!  Please have your child bring a collection of 100 of the same items in a bottle to school on Wednesday.

Also, we will be using our rock collections tomorrow so if your child has not brought a collection of 3 different rocks to school, please remind them!
